Enter summative numeric percentages and their weights
This checker covers UCL’s numeric marking scale, with the standard module pass mark of 40.00 at levels 4–6 and 50.00 at level 7. Add one row per assessed component. Enter the final percentage for each numeric summative assessment and its contribution to the module. Numeric weights must add to exactly 100%; the checker rejects a missing or duplicated weighting rather than silently normalizing it.
Where a component mark has been converted to a percentage, UCL rounds that percentage to two decimal places before weighting. This worksheet rounds entered component percentages accordingly, applies each weight and rounds the weighted module mean to two decimals. Formative feedback does not belong in the numeric sum or the module pass conditions. Letter grade preponderance, criterion-referenced professional scales and special programme thresholds are not supported.
A must-pass component can block a high mean
Mark a numeric component as must-pass only if your programme designates it non-condonable. That component must meet the relevant level’s pass mark as well as the module meeting its overall mean threshold. A low ordinary component is not, by itself, an extra automatic veto when the module mean and all required conditions pass. Confirm the designation from your programme diet instead of assuming every assessment is must-pass.
In the default example, 70 at an 80% weight and 30 at a 20% weight produce 62.00. Because the second component is marked must-pass, the level 4–6 module still fails: 30 is below 40. Unchecking that designation changes the result only if your actual programme permits it. The rule trace separates the weighted contribution from the required-component flag so the difference is visible.
Zero-weight does not mean optional
A pass/fail component contributes no numeric weight but must be passed. Change its type to pass/fail, set its numeric weight to zero and record the official pass status. For example, one numeric component at 65 with weight 100 and a failed zero-weight pass/fail component has a numeric mean of 65 but does not pass the module. A pass/fail-only module has no numeric mean and is outside this worksheet.
This result is a component audit, not a progression, award or reassessment decision. Use the progression checker for a complete 120-credit year, the relevant classification calculator for the full degree record, and the resit worksheet if a first-failed module is being reassessed. Penalties, accommodations and official record corrections must be applied before entering final marks. No marks are uploaded or automatically verified against UCL systems; your department confirms the official outcome.
