About the Wellington GPA System

The student page’s four-course example is A+ at 20 points, A at 15, B at 20 and E at 20: 400 ÷ 75 = 5.3. The August handbook gives A+ at 20 points and B− at 15: 240 ÷ 35 = 6.9. Unequal points mean a simple average of the letter-grade values is incorrect.

Wellington Grading Note

This calculator follows sections 17.1–17.5 of Wellington’s August 2026 Assessment Handbook. A+ is 9 and C− is 1; D, E and K count as zero. The handbook also assigns F in a pass/fail course zero, but P, G, J and L have no grade point and are omitted.

Wellington Accuracy Scope

The student Grades webpage’s GPA table lists L as zero, whereas the August 2026 handbook lists L as an ungraded degree pass. This page uses the handbook scope, not that webpage’s L value. For an older L or a programme-specific assessment, confirm the applicable record before including it. The result is displayed to one decimal, matching the handbook example.

GPA Tips for Wellington Students

  • For overall performance, the handbook recommends including passes and failures from repeat attempts.
  • For a particular admission course subset, the handbook’s guidance instead uses the highest grade in repeated courses; select that subset yourself.
