Entry rules for the 2027 JAE
- L1R5 = English or Higher Mother Tongue (L1) + a Humanities subject + a Mathematics or Science subject + one more Humanities, Mathematics or Science subject + your 2 best other subjects. MI's L1R4 = L1 + 2 Humanities, Mathematics or Science subjects + 2 best other subjects.
- Gross score of 20 or better, with English A1 to C6, Mathematics or Additional Mathematics A1 to D7, and Mother Tongue A1 to D7 (or Higher Mother Tongue A1 to E8).
- Bonus points (CCA up to 2, English and Higher Mother Tongue 2, Chinese or Malay Special Programme or Bahasa Indonesia 2, affiliated JC 2) are capped at 4 and lower the net score used for posting. The Language Elective Programmes add 2 more.
- You can list up to 12 course choices. The 2027 JAE uses the 2026 O-Level results; MOE's tentative dates are 13 to 15 January 2027 for results and 2 February 2027 for posting.
From 2028 the Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise replaces the JAE: JCs switch to L1R4 with a gross limit of 16, and bonus points are capped at 3. The L1R5 calculator handles both sets of rules.

What is the cut-off point for JC?
Each JC course has its own cut-off: the net L1R5 of the last student posted to it. In the 2026 JAE they ranged from 3 for the Science courses at Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution to 20 for the Arts course at Yishun Innova Junior College, which still had places after posting. To apply at all you need a gross L1R5 of 20 or better.
Which JC has the lowest cut-off point?
Hwa Chong Institution and Raffles Institution: their Science courses took net L1R5 scores of 2 to 3 in the 2026 JAE, and their Arts courses 2 to 5. Eunoia JC Science and Nanyang JC Science also closed at 5.
Is the JC cut-off point based on gross or net L1R5?
The ranges are net scores, after bonus points such as CCA, affiliation and Higher Mother Tongue. Eligibility is different: it is checked on the gross L1R5, which must be 20 or better.
What does 20* mean?
The last student posted had a better score than 20, but the course still had places after posting, so MOE shows the cut-off as 20: it could have taken any eligible student with a score of 20.
Will the 2027 JAE cut-off points be the same?
Not necessarily. MOE says the ranges depend on the O-Level results and course choices of each year's applicants and are only a guide. The 2027 JAE ranges will appear in SchoolFinder on posting results day, which MOE has tentatively set for 2 February 2027.
What changes for JC admission from 2028?
From the 2028 Post-Secondary Admissions Exercise, JCs use L1R4 instead of L1R5, with a gross limit of 16, and bonus points are capped at 3. Cut-off points from 2028 will not be comparable with the L1R5 ranges on this page.
