About the Monash Malaysia GPA System
Your Monash transcript shows the Monash-wide WAM (a 0-100 average) and the 4-point GPA. The Malaysian CGPA is not on the academic record: students at Monash University Malaysia ask Student Services for a CGPA letter.
Why GPA Matters at Monash Malaysia
Monash awards no CGPA-based degree classes. Honours degrees get an honours grade from the WAM instead: H1 (First Class) 80 to 100, H2A 70 to below 80, H2B 60 to below 70. Academic progress is judged on failed units, for example failing half or more of your credit points in a review period, rather than on a CGPA cut-off.
Monash Malaysia Grading Note
Monash University Malaysia follows Monash University's Grading Schema Procedure, but in Malaysia a CGPA replaces the GPA: HD (80-100) is 4.00, D (70-79) 3.67, C (60-69) 2.85 and P (50-59) 2.15, while a fail (N, 0-49) still carries 1.15. P is the lowest pass. The calculator's scale menu also offers the 4-point transcript GPA (HD 4, D 3, C 2, P 1).
Monash Malaysia Accuracy Scope
Every grade counts, including fails and repeated units: a retake does not replace the earlier grade. SFR, NE, NAS, WI, PGO, NPGO and WNGO are left out. These CGPA values do not apply to the MBBS or the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine. Monash calculates to three decimal places.
GPA Tips for Monash Malaysia Students
- Enter each unit's credit points as its credits (the Monash examples use 6-, 12- and 24-point units).
- Enter a failed unit and its retake as two separate units: both stay in the CGPA.
- A supplementary assessment is offered only for a unit mark of 45 to 49, and passing it gives a mark of 50 (P).
Common GPA Mistakes at Monash Malaysia
Giving the 4-point transcript GPA (where C is 2) when a Malaysian employer or scholarship asks for your CGPA, where C is 2.85.
Monash Malaysia Grading System
Monash University Malaysia uses a 4.0-point grading scale. The highest achievable GPA is 4.0, and letter grades are converted to grade points using the official Monash Malaysia grade table below. Your cumulative GPA at Monash Malaysia is the weighted average of all completed modules across every semester.
