About the UCSI GPA System
UCSI University calculates the CGPA as the sum of course credits × grade points divided by the course credits. Since May 2008 its transcripts show results as a CGPA.
Why GPA Matters at UCSI
Honours classes (from the May 2016 intake) are First Class at 3.67 and above, Second Upper 3.00 to 3.66, Second Lower 2.50 to 2.99 and Third 2.00 to 2.49; they do not apply to the Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences or the Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science. International students must keep a CGPA above 2.0. The Dean's List needs a semester GPA of 3.50 over at least 3 grade-point-bearing courses.

UCSI Grading Note
UCSI's handbook prints two grade legends: one for September 2017 onwards and a new one for January 2024 onwards, in which A+ (90-100) is 4.00, A (80-89) drops to 3.75 and B covers 60-69. This page uses the 2024 legend and offers the 2017 one in the calculator's scale menu; the handbook does not say which intakes use which.
UCSI Accuracy Scope
To pass you need at least 40% in continuous assessment, 40% in the final assessment and 50% overall, so C- and D (40-49) are only conditional passes. MQA/JPT compulsory courses, English requirement courses, transferred credits and failed courses you later replaced and passed are left out of the CGPA. The legend does not cover A Levels, Pharmaceutical Sciences or Medicine.
GPA Tips for UCSI Students
- In the 2024 legend an A earns 3.75, so a 4.00 needs 90 marks or more.
- A supplementary exam (for an overall mark of 40% to 49% with coursework passed) is capped at 50%, grade C.
- From January 2024 you can repeat a course passed with C+ or C once, and the better grade counts, but it cannot change your degree class.
Common GPA Mistakes at UCSI
Giving an 80-89 mark 4.00 after January 2024. That was the 2017 legend; in the 2024 legend it is an A at 3.75.
UCSI Grading System
UCSI University uses a 4.0-point grading scale. The highest achievable GPA is 4.0, and letter grades are converted to grade points using the official UCSI grade table below. UCSI awards degree classifications based on cumulative GPA thresholds, with First Class requiring a CGPA of 3.67 or above.
Each module grade earns a specific number of grade points, which are then weighted by credit units to compute your semester GPA and cumulative GPA (CGPA). Use the UCSI GPA calculator above to project your CGPA based on expected grades.
