How the 70-point UAS works

Counted: General Paper and three H2 content-based subjects taken in the same sitting. 3 × 20 + 10 = 70.
Counted only if it helps: a fourth H1 or H2 content subject, and H1 Mother Tongue or O-Level Higher Mother Tongue.
Not counted: Project Work, which is now Pass or Fail but must be passed to apply (private candidates and exempted students excepted), and H3 subjects.
Minimum requirements at NUS and NTU: three H2 content subjects and GP in the same sitting, a Pass in Project Work, and the Mother Tongue requirement (without it, an offer is provisional). SIT and SUSS ask for passes in at least two H2 subjects and GP.

Mother Tongue requirement: at least D7 in O-Level Higher Mother Tongue, S in H1 Mother Tongue or H1 General Studies in Chinese, S in H2 Mother Tongue Language and Literature, a Pass in the Mother Tongue 'B' syllabus, or an MOE exemption or approved subject in lieu.

NUS states the maximum points: 20 for an H2 and 10 for an H1 subject. No university page we could find lists the points for lower grades, so the rest of this table is the rank point table in common use. SEAB counts A to E as passes.

If you took the A-Levels in 2024 or earlier

You cannot choose the method: it depends on when you sat the exam and when you apply.

Applying for AY2026 or AY2027: GP, three H2 subjects, the best fourth content subject (an H1, or an H2 counted at H1 value) and Project Work count, on the 90-point scale, which is then weighted proportionally to 70. H2 Knowledge & Inquiry taken in place of GP can replace GP and the H1 subject. Mother Tongue is added if it improves the score.
Applying from AY2028: everyone is on the 70-point scale, Project Work no longer counts (a Pass still meets the requirement), and an H2 KI grade taken in place of GP is treated as the GP grade.

For example, AAA/A with an A in GP and Project Work is 90 of 90, or 70 on the new scale; ABB/B with B for GP and A for Project Work is 82.5 of 90, or 64.17.

Bonus points at NUS

First Choice Bonus Points: up to 2.5 points on the UAS for your first-choice programme, if it is a single-degree programme without an interview (not for Medicine, Dentistry, Law, Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Industrial Design, Nursing or PPE).
Mother Tongue Language Bonus Points for the College of Humanities and Sciences, up to 3: 2 for at least an E in H2 Mother Tongue Language and Literature, Translation or China Studies in Chinese; 1 for at least an A in H1 Mother Tongue; 1 for at least a B in H1 General Studies in Chinese. You must opt in on the application form.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are A-Level rank points calculated from 2026?

For students who took the A-Levels in 2025 or later, the University Admission Score adds General Paper and three H2 content-based subjects taken in the same sitting, for a maximum of 70. A fourth H1 or H2 subject and H1 Mother Tongue are counted only if they raise the score. Project Work needs a Pass but earns no points.

What is the maximum RP?

70 under the current system: 20 for each of three H2 subjects and 10 for General Paper. Before the change it was 90, with an H1 content subject and Project Work (10 each) on top.

How many points is a B in H2?

Universities only publish the maximum, 20 points for an A in an H2 subject and 10 for an H1 subject. The rank point table in common use gives an H2 B 17.5, C 15, D 12.5, E 10, S 5 and U 0, and half of that for H1 subjects; this calculator uses it.

Does my fourth subject still count?

Only if it helps. NUS, NTU and SMU say the fourth H1 or H2 content subject, and H1 Mother Tongue or O-Level Higher Mother Tongue, are considered only if they improve the overall UAS. They do not publish how the extra subject is rescaled, so this calculator adds it at H1 value and scales the total back to 70.

I took the A-Levels in 2024. How is my UAS worked out?

For admission in AY2026 and AY2027, your Project Work, H1 and H2 content subjects count: the score is computed on the old 90-point scale and weighted proportionally to 70. From AY2028 everyone is on the 70-point scale and Project Work no longer counts.

Can I use Knowledge & Inquiry instead of General Paper?

Not from AY2026. H2 Knowledge & Inquiry is no longer accepted in place of GP; if you offer it, it counts as an H2 content subject. Candidates from 2024 or earlier who took H2 KI in place of GP cannot also use it as an H2 content subject.

What RP do I need for NUS or NTU?

The universities publish grade profiles rather than RP cut-offs. Their Indicative Grade Profiles show the grades of the 10th and 90th percentile of students offered each course, and suggest 2025 candidates look at the 3 H2 grades. See our IGP pages for every NUS, NTU and SMU course.
