UMS Grading Note
For intakes from 2022/2023, UMS grades on a 4.00 scale from A+ (90-100) down to E (0-34), and D+ (40-44) is the minimum pass; D and E are fails. Earlier intakes have no A+ and pass at D. Engineering, Accounting and Medicine use stricter pass grades.
UMS Accuracy Scope
When you repeat a course, only the best grade counts in your PNGK. Audit, withdrawn and vertically transferred courses are left out. Faculty of Computing and Informatics students also need at least 20% in both coursework and the final exam.
GPA Tips for UMS Students
- UMS marine science and biology students should factor in fieldwork components that carry credit hours. Strong fieldwork reports can boost overall CGPA.
- Students at UMS Labuan International Campus should verify their programme follows the same grading regulations as the main Kota Kinabalu campus.
- Plan around Sabah-specific academic calendar considerations, as weather and logistics can occasionally affect semester scheduling.
Common GPA Mistakes at UMS
Students sometimes assume that fieldwork and lab-based courses at UMS are graded on a pass/fail basis. Most carry standard letter grades and credit hours, so a poor fieldwork performance directly lowers CGPA.
UMS Grading System
Universiti Malaysia Sabah uses a 4.0-point grading scale. The highest achievable GPA is 4.0, and letter grades are converted to grade points using the official UMS grade table below. UMS awards degree classifications based on cumulative GPA thresholds, with Class One requiring a CGPA of 3.67 or above.
Each module grade earns a specific number of grade points, which are then weighted by credit units to compute your semester GPA and cumulative GPA (CGPA). Use the UMS GPA calculator above to project your CGPA based on expected grades.
