About the TP GPA System
Temasek Polytechnic is situated at its Tampines campus in eastern Singapore and is recognized for its strong design, IT, and applied sciences programmes. TP uses a 4.0 GPA scale and emphasizes project-based assessment across many of its diploma courses.
Why GPA Matters at TP
A competitive TP GPA of 3.5 or higher significantly improves your chances of admission to NUS, NTU, and SMU degree programmes. GPA also determines eligibility for TP merit scholarships, the Diploma with Merit distinction, and selection for overseas immersion trips.
TP Grading Note
TP grades diploma subjects (TP's word for modules) on a 4.0 scale. Z (Distinction) and A both carry 4.0, and a non-graded pass (P) carries 1.0. Subjects with no grade point, such as Pass, Fail or Pass with Commendation, are not counted.
TP Accuracy Scope
If your attendance falls below 85%, you can still sit the main exam but a pass is capped at P (1.0). When you retake a failed subject, the new grade replaces the F in your GPA. Confirm other rules on your school's page.
GPA Tips for TP Students
- Design project and capstone modules at TP often carry more credit units than lecture-based modules, so invest proportionally more effort into them.
- Front-load your core modules in earlier semesters so you can take lighter elective loads when specialization modules get harder in Year 3.
Common GPA Mistakes at TP
TP students sometimes back-load difficult core modules into later semesters, leaving less room to recover from a poor grade. Front-loading core modules gives you more semesters to compensate if one does not go well.
TP Grading System
Temasek Polytechnic uses a 4.0-point grading scale. The highest achievable GPA is 4.0, and letter grades are converted to grade points using the official TP grade table below. As a polytechnic, TP does not award honours classifications. Your cumulative GPA is the primary academic metric used for university admissions and scholarship applications.
