Confirm the standard taught Masters record
This calculator uses the numeric marking scale for a standard 180-credit taught Masters record. Enter every taught module and the dissertation or substantive project. Identify the project explicitly and mark any other non-condonable modules. Use final recorded marks, including official second-attempt caps. The worksheet requires level 6 or 7 module entries and a level-7 project, but it does not approve your programme diet, credit level mix or external recognition of prior learning.
A level-7 module normally passes at 50.00; a level-6 module uses 40.00. The project must pass and cannot be rescued by an overall high average. Required component passes also need confirmation. The example includes four 30-credit taught modules and a 60-credit project, making the exact 180-credit total visible rather than assuming every entered row is equally weighted.
Award conditions come before Merit or Distinction
For the supported standard award, no more than 30 taught credits may be condoned. The level-7 condonable range is 40.00–49.99; the level-6 range, where that level is permitted, is 30.00–39.99. All non-condonable modules and the dissertation must pass. Where condonement is required, the credit-weighted mean across the complete record must be at least 50.00. A 31-credit failed taught set does not fit the standard 30-credit cap.
The example includes one ordinary 30-credit level-7 module at 45 and a project at 65. Its full-record mean is 62.50, and the entered standard award conditions produce Merit. Marking the failed module non-condonable immediately blocks the award estimate. Increasing other marks must not hide that failure. Extended Masters rules, MRes, letter scales and special programme exceptions are outside this tool.
Use all credits for the classification borderline
The final weighted mark is the credit-weighted mean of all module marks, rounded to two decimals. Distinction requires at least 69.50, or at least 68.50 with marks of at least 70.00 in half of all credits. Merit uses 59.50, or 58.50 with half of all credits at least 60.00. Unlike the Bachelors rule, this credit share is not restricted to a final study year.
The standard taught Masters classification rule here does not add a dissertation mark of 70 as an extra Distinction requirement. For example, 90 taught credits at 70, 30 at 77 and a 60-credit project at 62 give a mean of 68.50; 120 of 180 credits reach 70, meeting the standard borderline. Do not transfer MRes-specific project rules into this calculation. The Board still confirms the award and any programme-specific restrictions.
