About the UniKL GPA System

Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL) divides grade points by SCC, the Semester Credit Calculated: the credits you took minus pass/fail and withdrawn courses. These rules come from the undergraduate Academic Handbook in force from the October 2024 semester.

Why GPA Matters at UniKL

You need a CGPA of 2.00 to graduate and to stay in good standing; 1.67 to 1.99 is probation, and below 1.67 means Failed and Out. First Class starts at 3.50 and Second Class Upper at 3.00, and every CGPA from 2.00 to 2.99 is Second Class Lower: UniKL awards no Third Class. The Dean's List needs a GPA of 3.50 on at least 12 credits, with no grade below C or S.

UniKL Grading Note

UniKL's scale runs from A (80-100, 4.00) to D (40-44, 1.00), with C- (45-49) at 1.67. There is no A+ and no D+. D is the general pass grade, and F (0-39) is a fail.

UniKL Accuracy Scope

W, WA, WI, DA and audit (AU) courses are left out, while XA (absent from the final exam), XB (barred) and XM (misconduct) count as F. For a failed course you repeat, and for a course passed with B- or below that you improve once, the better grade counts. Some programmes set their own requirements.

GPA Tips for UniKL Students

  • Leave out courses graded S and withdrawn courses: UniKL's own example drops a 2-credit S course and gets 35.65 ÷ 13 = 2.74.
  • A resit of the final assessment is capped at B+, and you qualify only if you failed at most two courses and got at least 40% of the coursework marks.
  • You can repeat a course passed with B- or below once to improve it, but not by extending your final semester or during industrial training.

Common GPA Mistakes at UniKL

Expecting a Third Class band. At UniKL every CGPA from 2.00 to 2.99 is Second Class Lower.

UniKL Grading System

Universiti Kuala Lumpur uses a 4.0-point grading scale. The highest achievable GPA is 4.0, and letter grades are converted to grade points using the official UniKL grade table below. UniKL awards degree classifications based on cumulative GPA thresholds, with First Class requiring a CGPA of 3.50 or above.

Each module grade earns a specific number of grade points, which are then weighted by credit units to compute your semester GPA and cumulative GPA (CGPA). Use the UniKL GPA calculator above to project your CGPA based on expected grades.
