About Deakin Grading
Deakin's example: two Credits (60), two Distinctions (75), a High Distinction (80) and a Withdrawn Fail (WN, default mark 0), each worth 1 achievable credit point, give 350/6 = 58.3. The student's two Withdrawn Late (WL) units are not achievable credit points and are left out. Press "Load example" to run it.
Why Your Average Matters at Deakin
Honours units and courses are graded H1 (80% and over), H2A (70 – 79%), H2B (60 – 69%) and H3 (50 – 59%). We found no university-wide WAM threshold for a degree with distinction or a Dean's list in the pages checked.
Deakin Grading Note
Deakin does not calculate a GPA: it uses a Weighted Average Mark (WAM), and your WAM does not appear on your academic transcript. Marks are graded HD (80% and over), D (70 – 79%), C (60 – 69%), P (50 – 59%) and N (Fail, below 50%). For the same WAM rules side by side with other universities, use the WAM calculator at /wam-calculator/.
Deakin Accuracy Scope
Only Deakin units count; cross-institutional units and credit are left out. A fail (N) counts at its mark. Where no mark was given, PC counts 50 and XN and WN count 0, while Withdrawn Late (WL) is left out. A combined course has a separate WAM for each degree, and 13 listed honours courses (such as H345 and S460) use a different method. Deakin states no rounding rule; its example prints 350/6 as 58.3, while this calculator shows two decimals.
Tips for Deakin Students
- Enter each unit's achievable credit points; Deakin's own example uses 1 credit point per unit.
- Leave Withdrawn Late (WL) units out, but enter a Withdrawn Fail (WN) as 0.
- For a combined course, work out one WAM for the units of each degree.
Common WAM Mistakes at Deakin
Using an 85% High Distinction cut-off from another university. At Deakin a High Distinction starts at 80%.
