From MPM's "Band Description", the same table as section 19 of the MUET Regulations and Test Specifications. The ranges run without gaps from 1 to 360. There is no Band 1.5: Band 1.0 is followed by Band 2.0.
What each MUET band level means
MPM describes each band with the Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Global Scale, adapted from the Council of Europe's 2018 Companion Volume. In short:

- MPM reports a score for each component and an aggregated score from 1 to 360, which sets the band from 1.0 to 5+.
- MPM does not print a formula, but four equally weighted scores out of 90 and an aggregate out of 360 (4 x 90) add up directly, which is what the calculator does.
- You must attempt all four components to get an overall band. Anyone can register: MPM sets no entry requirement.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is the MUET band calculated?
MPM reports four scores out of 90 (Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing), each worth 25%, and an aggregated score out of 360 (4 x 90). MPM does not print a formula, but with equal weights on equal scales the four scores add up to the aggregate, and MPM's table turns that into a band. For example, 58 + 52 + 55 + 46 = 211, which is Band 4.0 (CEFR B2).
What aggregate score is MUET Band 4.0?
Band 4.0 is an aggregated score of 211 to 257 out of 360, CEFR B2. At the bottom of the range that is an average of 52.75 per component.
What is the highest MUET band?
Band 5+, for an aggregated score of 331 to 360 (CEFR C1+). Band 5.0 covers 294 to 330 (CEFR C1). Both are "Proficient user" levels in MPM's table.
Is there a MUET Band 1.5?
No. MPM's table has 9 bands: 1.0, 2.0, 2.5, 3.0, 3.5, 4.0, 4.5, 5.0, 5+. Band 1.0 covers 1 to 35, and Band 2.0 starts at 36.
What CEFR level is my MUET band?
MPM aligns the bands to the CEFR as follows: 5+ = C1+; 5.0 = C1; 4.0 and 4.5 = B2; 3.0 and 3.5 = B1; 1.0, 2.0 and 2.5 = A2.
How long is a MUET result valid?
5 years from the date MPM releases the results. This is in MPM's MUET regulations and its 2026 candidate guide. Results released before 2009 were valid until 18 July 2013.
What MUET band do I need for a public university?
UPU's general requirement for the 2026/2027 intake is at least Band 1.0, for tests from Session 1 2021, within the 5-year validity. It applies to the STPM, matriculation, asasi, STAM and diploma/equivalent categories. Each programme can set a higher band in its own requirements (syarat khas), listed on e-Panduan UPU. DVM, Politeknik and Kolej Komuniti diploma holders are exempt from MUET as a general requirement for the four MTUN universities (UniMAP, UMPSA, UTHM and UTeM).
Do I have to sit all four MUET components?
Yes. MPM gives an overall band only to candidates who attempt all four components, and gives no certificate to those who do not.
Can I get my MUET result re-marked?
Yes. MPM accepts re-marking appeals online through its portal for a fee of RM90.00. The outcome can be checked 20 days after applications close, and a changed result appears on the e-certificate.
