What GPA scales are used in Singapore?

Singapore autonomous universities (NUS, NTU, SUSS, SUTD, SIT) use a 5.0 GPA scale. SMU uses a 4.0 scale. All five polytechnics (SP, NP, TP, NYP, RP) use a 4.0 scale.

What GPA do I need for First Class Honours in Singapore?

NUS, NTU, SUSS, SUTD and SIT now call their top class Honours (Highest Distinction), or Honours with Highest Distinction, and it needs a CGPA of 4.50 out of 5.0. At SMU, Summa Cum Laude requires 3.80 out of 4.0.

Can I compare GPA across different Singapore schools?

Not directly. A GPA of 3.5 at NUS (out of 5.0) is not the same achievement as 3.5 at SMU (out of 4.0) or 3.5 at SP (out of 4.0). Always consider the scale when comparing.

What polytechnic GPA do I need to enter a Singapore university?

Check each university's Indicative Grade Profile (IGP). In the latest profiles, 90% of the polytechnic students offered a place had a GPA of at least 3.87 for NUS Medicine, 3.78 for NTU Computer Science, 3.71 for SMU Accountancy and 3.57 for NUS Engineering; NUS Law and Dentistry admitted too few polytechnic students to publish a figure.
